GOSH is campaigning for sustainable open-space management, led by the community for the community in partnership with the council, to enable food growing and encourage biodiversity in the city of Hull. We firmly believe climate change and sustainability must be the foremost consideration in Planning decisions and we therefore support the Charter.

Local communities are being denied their democratic right to partake in decisions that affect their immediate environment. RAFF (Residents Action On Fylde Fracking) has always encouraged its members to take action and get involved in local matters. The new planning laws do not make provision for this.
There also seems to be no mention of the fact that an increase of effective integration of climate change and ecological matters into projects at the earliest appropriate stage enables better outcomes, reduced risk and cost.

We voted unanimously to support this charter at our Environment & Planning Meeting 11th November 2020. We agree with the articles as stated: our democaratic rights to influence planning and developmen, twhich should be sustainable and appropriate, protect our green-spaces for the well-being of people and to enhance biodiversity, and to tackle climate change.

We represent diverse community of local supporters. Such local residents have a stake in the way their neighbourhoods look and function, and a right to to respond to concerns, not to mention substantial expertise in the local geography. Planning for future developments and transport infrastructure must continue to be scrutinised democratically through local councils and public consultation.

We believe it is important for planning decisions to be properly scrutinised in an open and transparent manner. If these decisions are left to the organisations which have a clear vested financial interest, they will be biased and will not take proper account of environmental, ecological and conservation factors.

Our borough Ealing, is getting destroyed by development. No consideration given to the current existing community.

This proposal is a serious infringement of the rights of citizens to oppose plans they disapprove of. This is like taking away their right to vote and is thus a disenfranchisement.

Thirty years campaigning in King’s Cross on planning issues (1983 to 2014) taught me the importance of local input. Islington Council (where I lived) was very good by and large at involving and respecting local people’s input, Camden Council less so. With Islington’s support we were able first to defeat the plan to bring the Channel Tunnel Rail Link to a low level station in King’s Cross (involving demolition of much of the KX area for no good reason) and then to get significant improvements to the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (aka High Speed 1) design and construction (we didn’t oppose the rail link, just wanted it built better, and it is). Less successful getting any changes to the King’s Cross Central development, but that was mainly in Camden. Without the right to object, we will be reduced to the level of lowly peasants–but the peasants are the people who live in a place and know what would be best.

We need really-secure and really-affordable rented housing, and therefore need to be able to participate and to object where necessary within the planning system to resist developer priorities. Say NO to No say on planning.
