It will erode what little rights we have under the current planning process.
Rights: Community: ActionOctober 19, 2020, 12:02 pm
Our planning system is under threat. Planning matters because it gives us rights and powers over what happens in our communities. Given the public health and climate change crises, now is the time to make sure we have a system that works for the public interest.

It is so important that we preserve local democratic control over planning decisions and ensure that environmental issues have key priority
Sustain: the alliance for better food and farmingOctober 14, 2020, 3:54 pm
Sustain believes the planning system should be responsive to communities that want to shape the place they live to bring about sustainable local food systems. Places where policy makers, growers, food retailers, food businesses and consumers work in partnership will be healthy communities. Communities should have a voice not only at the policy stage but also in responding to details of a specific proposal to ensure all impacts have been taken into account and all possible opportunities have been identified. Food partnerships can bring a wealth of expertise to decision making. For more information on our position regarding the proposed planning reforms, please see: https://www.sustainweb.org/news/oct20-planning-for-the-future/

All the glossy brochures in the world do not compensate for proper democracy for local people. There appears to be some kind of rush to get the Planning White Paper through which is worrying in itself. The right words are often used such as sustainability and climate change, protection of nature etc without the ‘HOW’. The people elect Governments – please listen to them.

Poor planning has harmed communities, reduced valuable green space and created car-dependent suburbs. We can and must do better.

This is sadly a common struggle around Europe, and we should all be worried about it, especially now.

I am concerned that the environment will be pushed to the background as priority is given to commercial and housing applications. I am also concerned that social housing, affordable housing will not be prioritised. •I would like local people to make decisions. •I would like planning decisions that turned down development that encroached on Green Belt land. • I would like local councils to be able to agree plans for improvement of housing stock in cities, towns, and villages on brownfield sites. These plans should be out and out providing housing that is affordable and necessary, not developments for those who already have means.
