A planning system in which all communities can meaningfully participate is an essential aspect of a democratic society.

We support a "presumption against development". That does not mean no development should happen but rather that the onus should be on the proposer to demonstrate that the development is needed and also has no more than a neutral environmental impact.

It is people in communities who know the area best and if developers worked with them we would get better development.

I am signing as an individual but I am part of several local groups including our residents association currently seeking a Judicial Review of a planning decision on grounds which I can see include obstructing 1 and 2 of this charter. I am sure we will be looking at whether the RA should sign-up as well.

This removal of local democratic accountability is an entirely retograde move against the interests of communities.

I strongly oppose the removal of the local democratic element.

Having read the White Paper I feel really angry at the removal of powers and participation from the local level. I’m glad to sign this charter

Planning rules are so important to a community, to control the environment we want to live in. This should be a community decision, not developers and Whitehall.
